Somewhere between our appreciation for bold festivals and our zero tolerance for exploitation lie our feelings about the hotly debated agenda regarding the current and upcoming events for this year. It all began in January as we went aboard for 5 days to cover the infamous 70000Tons Of Metal third round, the world’s biggest Heavy Metal cruise which included the appearance of Cryptopsy, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter, Ektomorf, Ensiferum, Evergrey, Immolation, In Flames, Kreator, Nile, Onslaught, Sinister, Threat Signal, Tiamat, Turisas, Tyr and Unexpect.
Thankfully, this June we are attending to Britan’s infamous Download Festival which until date has reported the presence of 46 bands performing from 14th to 16th, amongst others featuring grand performances from Iron Maiden, Mastodon, Motörhead, Rammstein, Slipknot, The Sword and Vision Of Disorder. But, commitment-phobes can rest easy: Unlike most eye catching photographers and reporting live publishers currently on the scene, we are covering French Hellfest this June for the 3rd time in a row!
Confirmed for Hellfest are the names of Absu, Amorphis, Arch Enemy, Asphyx, At The Gates, Carpathian Forest, Ceremonial Oath, Converge, Cradle Of Filth, Cryptosy, Danzig, Dark Funeral, Dead Congregation, Equilibrium, Gojira, Hypocrisy, Ihsahn, Immortal, Korpiklaani, Kreator, Krisiun, Marduk, Misanthrope, Misery Index, Moonspell, Monstrosity, My Dying Bride, Pig Destroyer, Primordial, Sinister, Six Feet Under, Voivod, Wintersun, and Subway To Sally just to name a few.
Naturally, we are deploying a brand new pack of contributors all over Europe which we will have to keep maintaining them in the long-term. Intrepid staffers to take the photos and editors that quickly (and rightly on time) will be publishing the backlash for what many people already took as a glamorized display of powering presence. However, beyond the overwhelmingly tight schedule and their initial reception, we are excited about 2013 which seems to be quite a promising year. Defending my extremely careless bold editorial decision, of course I am glad to see the conversation that our expansion sparked. You want a discussion? Okay, let’s chat. In our eyes, it is our gut reaction that takes over. The new and more aggressive, straightforward direction is disturbing, even upsetting for some, and make many others wonder if we can be addressed in a more thoughtful way, rather than for the sake of shock value restrain some sort of awareness campaign for what we stand for: European Domination!
