Liesel Van Helsing to premiere television show

Since I have been following the comics of Horsham-based Zenescope Entertainment since I got to know founders Ralph Tedesco and Joe Brusha presentation at a comic convention years ago, I was thrilled to learn last fall that the company’s Liesel Van Helsing character was getting her own television show, which was confirmed through imdb.com.

Local comic book producer Zenescope Entertainment has Van Helsing character in the successful hunt for television series. More impressive, filmmaker and playwright Neil LaBute (The Company of Men, Nurse Betty) is the show’s writer and showrunner alongside with Kelly Overton (Legends, True Blood) who is set to star. The hourlong show will debut in the fall on Syfy.

Reached for comment, all Ralph Tedesco would say was:

Van Helsing is one of our more popular comic-book characters. That is because she is a tough-as-nails vampire hunter who happens to be the daughter of Abraham Van Helsing. And while I can not yet confirm the degree of our involvement in the TV series, we are extremely excited for what should shape up to be a fantastic show.

The original comic is about Liesel Van Helsing, first appearing in Grimm Fairy Tales Unleashed #0. This character has appeared in nearly 63 comics including the 2014 series Grimm Fairy Tales Presents Helsing and last year’s Van Helsing vs. Dracula. The television show’s main character is named Vanessa Helsing. IMDB has the show starting in the fall.

On the previous issue of Van Helsing vs. Dracula, Dracula has lured Liesel Van Helsing and her friends back to London by staging a massacre in the streets, but Liesel Van Helsing is coming prepared with the ultimate weapon; a stake crafted from Dracula’s bones. As Liesel Van Helsing and crew head out to face Dracula, Marian attempts a spell that will determine if Mina lives or dies.

In the current issue, the terrifying tale of horror’s biggest icon comes to a close. As Dracula’s minions paint London red, Van Helsing enters her final conflict with the vampire that can not die. Everything is on the line, and only one will survive.
