Evergrey – ‘A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament)’ CD

One of the most consistent and persistent of the progressive metal acts spawned in the ’90s, Evergrey have once again delivered a heavy, dark, passionate and compelling collection of songs.

This stable line-up of musicians has perfected their sound at this point in their career and seem comfortable with their style; hence we do not hear much in the way of experimentation. Those who found 2021’s ‘Escape of the Phoenix’ enjoyable will similarly love these songs as the balance of melody and heaviness here mirrors that release.

In summary, ‘A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament)’ is yet another victory for Evergrey and their fans, as the songs represent everything which makes this band such an emotionally compelling listen.
