On Thorns I Lay – ‘Crystal Tears’ CD

On Thorns I Lay are a band from Greece whose music has weaved through shades of romantic death/doom and a catchier gothic metal, in a very similar vein as bands such as Paradise Lost, Theatre of Tragedy, and Lacrimas Profundere.

Although the band would eventually return to their death/doom roots in recent years, ‘Crystal Tears’ saw the band losing the aggressive riffs and harsh vocals, taking on a very mellow and intimate gothic/doom direction.

Overall, this album is a tasteful piece of melancholic doomed gothic metal with beautiful vocals and lush violins, a worthy recommendation for those looking for something similar to Theatre of Tragedy’s ‘Aégis’ era.
