“Underground metal is dead,” they said. “There are not great underground festivals anymore,” they said. If anything this summer that will prove is that those non-believers are wasting saliva, it will be the new edition of Obscene Extreme Festival. Besides the very successful Maryland Deathfest edition which took place in late May, now it is the turn of friendly moshing designed from Eastern Europe. Czech’s very own Obscene Extreme Festival will start once again after rocking the down under in two days in its birthplace, Trutnov.
For those of you who are not familiar with this festival, it is an initiative created more than sixteen years ago that has grown in both prestige and geographical range. With the motto “freak-friendly extreme“, the Obscene Extreme Festival does not fail to deliver. Being incepted as a metal open-air festival from a big fan to other great fans of the genre, you will be allowed to do things that in most festivals are outlawed: stage diving, fair ticket price, friendly environment, and for those of you into veganism, this is your place to enjoy both brutal pieces of music and vegan-friendly meals.
With over five thousand bands in its lineups over the years, this 16th installment will bring to Czech Republic’s battlefield sixty-nine bands that represent both the extreme and the underground that you can find available. Bands such as Obituary, Pig Destroyer, Vital Remains will perform alongside with bands that are gradually emerging into the festival’s scene.
Obscene Extreme Metal open-air festival will begin tomorrow, July 8th, and will last the entire weekend. If you are afraid of not having a ticket, worry not, for you will be able to get your ticket at the gates of the festival. I guess for the Obscene Extreme Festival organization, it is never too late.
