Fleshgod Apocalypse live at 70000 Tons of Metal 2016

Fleshgod Apocalypse has achieved a new high with their new album ‘King’, after almost ten years in the making this Italian quintet have redefined the concept of technical death metal and added their own flavor to it, their style and their stage presence have gained them a special place in the metal community as one of the most exciting bands to see out there, a live set of Fleshgod Apocalypse fits the perfect description of a Luciferian opera, if Niccolò Paganini were alive these musicians could easily be on his compositions.

Fleshgod Apocalypse kicked off their United States tour with two shows at 70000 Tons Of Metal, and even though there were a few technical problems with the sound on the pool deck, their show at the Pyramid Lounge was a bit better, crowded but better. After the cruise they hopped on a tour bus with the comrades of Carach Angren and continued their journey through the American stages, we caught them again at a more intimate setting during their stop at Joe’s Grotto a few weeks ago. This time around, it was a bit different as this was their first headlining tour after visiting the United States since 2010.

It was interesting to witness the moment in which a hard working band achieves a headlining tour in a robust market especially for European musicians who always seem to get beaten down by the costs of traveling the United States, But Fleshgod Apocalypse’s show at Joe’s Grotto had an amazing response even for a weekday, the venue was about at capacity and their set, of course, was longer than what they played at 70000 Tons Of Metal.

You would think that they will play a more ‘King’-centered set, but on the contrary this show was a mixed of everything from ‘The Egoism’, ‘The Deceit’, and ‘The Violation’ out of ‘Agony’ (2011) to ‘Minotaur (Wrath Of Poseidon)’, ‘Pathfinder’, ‘Epilogue’ out of their ‘Labyrinth’ (2013) album to new songs like ‘In Aeternum’, ‘The Fool’, or ‘March Royale’ out of the new ‘King’ (2016) album. It was an interesting night, and by far one of the most crowded shows that we have seen for Fleshgod Apocalypse so far.
